While I do a lot of my own repairs, rigging, oil changes, etc., one area that has always been a mental block is electronics - I have tried reading the electricity book for dummies and I STILL get mixed up with the myriad of wires on this boat.
1) Anyway, my steaming light and nav lights work fine at the dock but under power when I turn on the nav light and the steaming light, the steaming light clicks off like it is shorting out. I've put a new switch in the electrical panel and made sure all connections are tight at the panel and the circuit panel near the base of the mast. I also turned on the ignition at the dock and the lights stay on. The marina electrician suspected a possible corrosion at the base of the bulb, but why then does it work at the dock and not underway, unless it is just movement, which is hard for me to believe. Any ideas?
2) My tricolor stopped working, as did the strobe and anchor light after we unstepped the mast and re-stepped it in the spring. It's an older light that was on the boat when I bought it in '96 and worked fine before taking the mast down. My T37 is a 1981. Anyway, the wires exiting the bottom of the mast for the tricolor are yellow, green, and brown wire at the base of the mast. Can someone give me a refresher on which wire is which. Also, could this possibly be related to my steaming light problem - I don't see how since these are different circuits. Thanks for any help.
