I have been having salt water coming into the cabin on the counter top. The source of the water has been suggested as coming from the sink. I have check everything on deck and cannot find any leaks. It only happens when on port tack and healing a lot in reasonable seas. Has anyone else had that issue. The boat is new to me so on my first two good hard sailing days to have people screaming that there is water all over the place has been a surprise. Thank you.

This is normal. If you heal so much that the stbd rail is close to the water line, the galley sink can drop below the water line allowing water to enter from the sink drain line. Similarly, water can enter the head sink if the port rail is low enough. Simply shut the corresponding drain thru hull valves, or shorten sail.

Yep, Just as Jim says, this is a "normal" thing when the boat is heeled over with the stbd rail down on a port tack. I seem to think that the magic number is 25 degrees of heel before we need to close off the sink seacock. It is also a good indication that you are not sailing as efficiently and should reduce sail area, but it's too much fun to sail heeled over with the rail down Cheers

Our galley sink has strainers that plug when pushed down. That's enough to prevent filling the sink. So it's our standard to just push those down when heavy seas are afoot. The sink in the head we close the sea-cock for those rigorous STBD tacks.
