How Many Gallons is the Original Water Heater on a T37

My water heater is working but starting to rust on the outside and fall apart. I think it's time for a new one. My boat is 90 miles away. Can someone tell me if the original is a 6 or 12 gallon capacity? Is it a Raritan? Mine has the heat exchanger that allows me to throw a lever and either use shore power, or the engine and I assume that was standard. We only use ours for washing dishes, etc., so I think a 6 gallon would work. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

My original tank was Raritan 12 gallon.

12, purchased a new one from defender recently. It will be a challenge to get it in/out with the engine in place, but through the port access panels it should work.

A Sawzall may aide in getting it out but getting it back in may be a challenge unless you go with one of the rectangular models.

It is a 12 gallon. The new ones are made of plastic and stainless so you will not have a repeat of the rust and crud if you replace it. I think you will find that replacing it with a 6 will not help with space much. Also, putting a rectangular one in will require some work to support it and it needs to be a particularly height. Good luck. I considered all the options and went with the 12 gallon, but you might want something different.

I intially purchased a 20 gallon but was afraid I might need to add a pressure tank, not worth it IMO

I replaced the original 12 gallon Raritan in Ardea a few years ago. It was a direct replacement with engine heating or shower power heating. I think you can get one that is electric only. Mine had a glass tank (like a home water heater). The old tank came out easily in one piece through the port quarter berth. The procedure is documented in the tech section here.

Thanks guys. Sounds like the 12 gal is the way to go. I'll check out the tech section to see what is there regarding the removal and installation process. I had heard that going thru the port panel(s) was the only way to get the unit into the engine compartment without removing the engine. I would prefer to just go with original replacement, meaning the cylindrical style.
