I know that we all have a problem with the sink filling when hard on a port tack. Shutting off the thru hull is the easy way when I remember it but I thought a better way is to have a twist type sink drain stopper in the sink. The problem is all I can find are the 3 prong stoppers like in the house - has anyone seen 4 prong boat twist type?

Thanks, Richard

It doesn't take much. After a few years of closing the seacock, we found that pushing the drainplug in does the trick. No need for a twisting one. If it can hold water in the sink, it's enough to keep the water from coming in. (That highly scientific factoid follows an extensive 10 yr study)

Just to let you know what can happen if the seacock is not closed. I was sailing upwind in about 35 knots of wind for about 2 hours when I looked down and saw the floor boards floating. After some frantic moments the problem was found, the hose came off the sink basket. So I now always close the seacock for the head and galley sink.

I love to heal as much as the next guy, but beyond a certain angle you really loose efficiency. I usually never have an issue with the sink filling up when I reduce sail and keep the same speed......Food for thought

My sink filled once while beating up the bay and I promptly shut the seacock. Now, we always shut it as we prepare to get underway. Also, suggest inspecting the drain hose under the sink. Found mine to be in bad shape and replaced it.

Speaking of under the sink, we had our cold water line expand and burst under there due to the heat of the engine on a long motoring venture. It had swelled quite a bit before splitting.
Figured it was just the age of the hose but the replacement did it a few yrs later. So I put heat shielding wrap around the pair of supply lines where they run closest to the engine compartment.

Something else you can look for when you inspect down there.

I have the same problem. I am planning to install a bayonet type shutoff below the sink. The shutoff is available from a pool supply. I will let you know how if works.
