Finally got the new bronze pintle in.I strengthened inside the skeg with epoxy and a piece of G10 to spread the load.It was a struggle as the skeg extension makes the rudder a tight fit. I was also pulling from above with a come-along. Lets hope it works, not keen on doing that again ! Bruce.

Nice job, I will be doing this soon. Where did you get your pintail? Tartan?

No, Art did not have one in the bolt pattern style of mine so I purchased the materials from speedymetals and my local machine shop did the work. Ended up slightly cheaper than Tartans.I made the pin a little larger than a stock one.

What did the plastic bushing look like? Did you get a picture of that?

We just had our rudder pin replaced here in Mazatlan. When we hauled the boat out for bottom paint the boat yard pointed out a little rudder wobble. It was fairly minor, but we decided to have it fixed. Good thing, as the pin was very corroded and had separated from the support bar that bolts on above the lower rudder fairing. There are some pictures on my blog at http://svventured.wordpress.com/2012/05 ... yard-life/

I think we caught a small problem before it could have become a big problem. I feel a lot better knowing the rudder should be solid for years to come. We just had a new slightly larger pin welded in, I have to say your fix looks much nicer but when cruising you sometimes have to settle for the lowest cost repair vs the prettiest!

Ardea, there's a pic in an old post 'another rudder question' Nov last year. I got the bushing from Tartan then bored it out to suit my larger pin. Bruce.

You can also buy Delrin from McMaster-Carr and drill out the center yourself to make the bushing......just a thought.
