Some coolant will spill. Disconnect the engine end first and drain the hose before you disconnect from the w/h. I find it easy to let things "leak" into the pan under the engine and then jsut clean out the pan after your work is done. Put some rags in the bilge under the fittings you're working on to catch dribbles. Might be a good time to renew the coolant anyway. If I remember there is a petcock under the heat exchanger to drain some of the coolant but you might pull the lower hose off the pump and let it drain. It's been a few years since I had a Westerbeke in my boat so the details are getting fuzzy.
