Timshel, is the thickness of your old bar 3/4" ??? Mine is 3" X 1/2" but has a slight bend in it, making me think I need to make it stronger. I was going to get it made with 4" X 1/2" bar, but if they are all 3/4" thick........

Hi, yes its 3/4'' by 3'' and 14'' long. I think you would have trouble with 4'' most of it would have to be tapered to fit in the skeg. Mine is fastened with 4, 1/2'' bolts. Bruce.

Hmm, I know it would be tight at 4" but didn't even think of going thicker to strengthen it! Maybe I'll go 4" and 3/4" thick and never worry about it. I am also picked up some 1 1/8" 316 for pintle pin and will go
1 3/4" high (vice 1 1/4") for the bearing so that I can put 2 pins spaced out at 90 degrees to keep the bearing from breaking free as quick. I like the idea of a glue as you are doing, maybe 5200 along with the pins might be worthwhile?????
The issue I have in making the bearing higher is the alignment for the rudder will be more critical. I am going to see the machinist tomorrow.
Anyone know how many thousands of an inch smaller the bearing should be than the rudder sleeve???

Thanks
Richard
