Hi, does anyone know what the size of the stuffing is on the rudder
stuffing box for a T37C? My shaft prop size is 1/4" but not sure about
the rudder size. Also can I just unattach the "collar?" that holds it
down, take out the old and replace it or do I have to take apart the
steering quadrant to do it? I was having some water coming in at
certain points of sail last year, so I put a wrap of old stuff the PO
had around and tighntened it which seemed to help but I think I should
just replace it with some of the Gore-Tex stuff.

Thanks, Richard

I'd like to know the answer to this question, too. Lying on my back in the laz with my ass up agin' the water heater I don't see how the hell to change the stuffing. Hard to even get a wrench up there back behind my head...

I put one more wrap of some size of stuffing by going down from the top (sort of through the gaps in the quadrant), but you can only lift the collar? up an inch or two. But I think I really should take the quadrant off to change it - if I can find what the right size is.

I rebuilt the Lazarette shelf (to make room for a propane locker) and while it was out I gained room to get in thru the Lazarette. I removed the quadrant to improve access to the stuffing box. When I rebuilt the shelf I attached with machine screws so I can remove the shelf again for access. It seemd the easiest way. Runs thru my mind that the packing was 5/16"
