 Post subject: 6- or 12- paddle water pump impeller?

I chewed up a couple of paddles a few years ago on my water pump impeller (W50 engine) and all the marina had was the 12-paddle impellers. It seems to work okay but I'm concerned that when the smaller paddles break off, there is more chance that they will pass thru the port to the heat exchanger, while the larger paddles would more likely lodge right in the pump housing. As such, I'm wondering if I should only use the 6-paddle impeller. I'm expect there are plenty of thoughts/experiences on this one?

Trust me... the 6 vane impellers end up in your exchanger just fine as well. If it's giving you adequate flow then let it serve for a season. If you see any reduction in flow, swap it out early, otherwise put the proper one in next season. I doubt the smaller vanes will disintegrate better than the six.
