Ref. the new Chainplate Islands article by Court Crosby in the Tech Resources section. I will be doing this job soon. I really like your idea of using 1/2" pieces of wood to stand in for the chainplate instead of the hassle of temporarily mounting them. One thing I am curious about tho; why did you cut away gelcoat, deck and core under the island area instead of merely pouring the epoxy onto the gelcoat? There won't be any shear force to stand up to that I can see.
