Mast drain hole?

My surveyor indicated that the mast drain hole was plugged on Impetuous. Since that time we have done some cleaning at the foot of the mast and have not found a drain hole. Does anyone know if my surveyor was full of .... or not?

I think he saw water running off the VHF cable where it exited the mast and claimed the mast was full of water.

I drilled a few small holes near the bottom to drain the water out as I never saw any holes either. You should drill above the mast peice that holds the bottom of the mast. I think it is about 1 1/2" high?

My step has a hole in it where the VHF cable runs through it. Not sure if this was original or done by PO. Hard to imagine that the mast resting on the step could form an adequately water tight seal to collect water is very difficult to imagine.

Mine was holding water just fine til a drilled a few small holes, then the water pored out. The VHF cable on mine is up about a foot which means it could hold that much water at any time.

Our mast has a 3/4" half circle cut out at the very bottom. Seems to work fine for draining as needed.
