I replaced all of my seacocks last year. What you say about them is technically correct, however I just replaced them with a larger engine intake. You know they lasted for 20 years (only one of them showed signs of corrosion when I dug it out (this is a job and a half and I have pictures and might be encouraged to put something in the technical part of the website as I learned a bit about removing their embedded carcasses from the hull--I developed some tricks) in an electrically "hot" marina so I do not think they are as bad as some of the old "true" seacock supporters would say. They are the same or better than you find in most production boats (I think Sabre is still using the old type, but most use something else) and that is all I can think of in production boats. Yes they are lighter construction than the old huge Groco (out of business as of late, I understand) valves that always seemed to freeze open or shut back when I was doing deliveries. I never had that problem with my balll valves.
I would consider Marlon if I was going to change them again but I am spooked about plastic and threads and stripping them and crushing them by overtightening things. Bronze will take more horsing by incompetent plumbers like me. But I put in larger versions of the same old OEM through hull fittings and valves and am quite convinced that the boat will have another 20 years or longer. I did have a machinist modify the threads which is very easy to do--I have no idea what Groco's thoughts were for why they put odd threads their through hull fittings. I also had them cut down to fit. But with Groco going out of business, you may not have an option to replace your old ones.
