I have been contemplating going after the cabin sole with a sander. However, before I go that route, I'm wondering if there is any cleaning product that I could try first. My sole has never been refinished, is worn from foot traffic, and has a number of stains, etc. My wife and SIL once cleaned the wood floor of an old house we rented and it came out beautiful.... glossy and minus the stains. The only problem is that they can't remember what they used... and I'm not sure it would be good on teak anyway (versus the oak hardwood floors in the house).

Anyone got any experience on this topic. Any products I should NOT use?

Thanks.

Mark

I don't have an answer to the cleaning question but if you end up opting to refinish check if it is a plywood sole and it probably is. If so then do not sand very hard as the teak and holly are only about 1/64" thick andyou can end up with a mess. Just go to http://www.ultimatesole.com/index.asp?ID=10 for instructions and try Ultimate Sole as it creates a skid resistant but glossy finish.

Thanks, I'll check out the website. I heard the t&h are very thin over plywood, so plan to sand lightly if I have to do that. I have heard that people actually lay new t&h over the old, but wondered if that wouldn't add too much thickness/height to the sole.

Ours isn't exactly the model of beauty like the one above, but every year we oil it with a spray (Liquid gold perhaps) and the water stained or faded areas go away. It doesn't quite last the season though as the wood dries out again, but it's a decent stop gap. And you'd be amazed how the veneer drinks up the oil.
