Hello everyone,
Can someone tell me if the grounding system (those copper wires tiyng the chainplates, the rudder post, etc. is indeed linked to the boat's keel somehow ?
In my centerboard version, I don't see any keel bolts aparent.
How is the keel fixed to the hull ? Is there any bolts or only encapsulated lead in the fiberglass ?

The reason of this question is that I consider using the bonding ground for my SSB installation.

Thanks and have a great sailing season all !

Jean-Denis - I installed a short wave years ago. I used the back stay for an antenna. I ran copper foil (about 3 inches wide) from the stern, along the bulkhead, attached to the base of the engine, forward in the bilge and attached them to the bolts to which the grounding wires are attached. Had excellent results.

Thank you for your answer. I'll try this setup for sure. Was planning on installing a Dynaplate from Guest (bronze ground plate) but putting holes in the cored hull sure does'nt appeal to me.
Have a great season !

Are you able to send well with your SSB ground as you have it? I have some articles about using existing through hulls for a seawater ground. Testing indicates this works well. If you would like for me to forward them to you contact me at fwitkamp@cfl.rr.com I, too, don't wish to add a Dynaplate as it will increase drag and, as you note, calls for yet another hole in the boat.
