Does anyone know if the outer genoa tracks mounted on the toe rail are through bolted into the hull/deck joint or if they are simply screwed into the toe rail. I want to do some wood repair and it would be easier if I removed the track. However, I don't want to open a can of worms trying to reattach the track when I'm done.
Thanks - Mike

Dog,
Although I have never taken mine off, I would think that it would be through-bolted for strength. Simple wood screws would not stand up to the trauma of sailing, IMHO. I'm sure someone out there has taken this piece of equipment off before and can tell you without a doubt.... Very Happy

I've made a half-hearted attempt to remove my genoa track on Betty Lou (also a '79, deep fin) because I'm refinishing my toe rails, and thought the sanding would be easier. Tried an impact screwdriver, and decided not to remove the track after not budging the first screw because the slot in the screw head started to get messed up. Those babies are in there! I think they must be trough the deck/hull connection or they would come out easier.

They are thru-bolted on my 1978. I had the headliner removed from the port side & witnessed the multiple nuts.

Thanks - I suspected they were through bolted - I did try to loosen one screw/bolt and it would not budge so I gave up. Looks like I'll be leaving them in place and working around them.

I guess that makes sense. That's a lot of force on that rail.

I was able to remove the end stop on the starboard side without any problem. A track mounted cleat had broken so needed to get that off to try and repair. The bolt came out easily with just a large screw driver and when I reinstalled it, it went in and tightened up without a problem. I suspect that the nut was somehow stuck in place so didn't have to try and get to it. I did not try to loosen any of the other bolts though.
