Does anyone out there have a good solution for a whisker pole to keep the genoa out when sailing downwind wing to wing? Advice on where to get the pole and how to mount would be appreciated.

We have a ring on the mast and bought a very small retractable whisker pole that would be rated for a much smaller boat. We only use it in light winds when our heavy genoa is flopping around. Easier to stow and does the job cheaply. A friend of ours had the proper wisker pole. Takes up much of the deck and needs a topping lift to get in place.

I bought a used pole about 14 ft long. I think it is a bit long and will probably cut it down a bit. I was going to mount a ring on the mast and have been choosing the height, but I have now decided to mount a track so that I can store it on the front of the mast. I think that it will be easier for my wife to set up on her own as well.

I would be interested in knowing the length that other T37 owners have, and the height above deck that they use the pole from.

I ended up buying a Forespar 15 footer (max) telescoping unit. It stows nicely on the shelf in the v-berth and its pretty strong. I'm going to install this weekend and try it. I'll send along the height when I can measure it.

Don't cut your 14 footer down just yet. I think you'll need the length from my observations as I sized mine.

I think the telescoping unit is a great idea as it just gives more options.

I have a 16 ft carbon fiber pole. Next time I would get an expandable carbon fiber pole as 16 is a little short sometimes, but it is really light and strong and good for a single hander like me.
