I wasn't able to find an exact replacement. I used "white board" that you can buy at Home Depot. It costs about $11 per 4' x 8' sheet. The outside surface (white shiny surface) is easy to clean. The back side is masonite like, just like the original. I coated the backside with 2 coats of polyurethane to make it waterproof, unlike the original. So far the 'water proofing' has worked quite well since I have had a minor coach roof leak which did not affect or warp the new headliner.

I used this stuff from Harbor Sales out of Baltimore. They deliver along the mid east, but the product is probably available elsewhere. It's a PVC matte-finished sheet good that is fairly inexpensive, easy to cut, pliable, easy to clean and will never rot! I put it on Tortuga about ten years ago and it still looks brand new. I paid about $25 for a 4x 8 sheet (ten years ago)

Ok...

Since I had much of the headliner down when installing the new traveler and other through deck fittings, I decided to replace the headliner and add some insulation while I was at it. I ended up using the stuff from Home Depot, much like what was in there already, I figured if the original lasted 20+ years, the HD stuff is good enough for me.

My question is...how the heck to you replace the headliner in the head and adjacent to it????? The other panels in the salon were actually fairly easy...but I cannot for the life of me figure how to get to the rest????

Thanks Toast

Tartan

Chef....
That panel is a P.I.T.A.!!! It is one continuous piece from side to side. What I did was to remove both head doors and the door jamb post along with the two pieces above. Once those were out of the way, I carefully cut the headliner with a utility knife along where the teak jamb boards were screwed to the ceiling. I tried to stay in the very center so that once you put everything back, the door jamb boards will cover that joint. This was the easy part.
You'll also need to remove the trim in the head as well as the trim on the starboard side. The existing headliner is screwed in very awkward places and it'll take a lot of patience to get it out. the starboard side will need to be twisted a bit to get it out and the port side also needs to be flexed quite a bit. If I remember correctly, the teak trim around the mast in the head compartment does not have screws that attach the headliner here, it goes into a slot.
Somewhere, I have pictures of this area , I'll have to locate.
Be patient!
Tom

What are your thoughts on making a template then gluing the new stuff right onto the old and covering the edges with teak trim?

Chef,
That should work OK but some of the trim pieces would need to be altered a bit.
