My 1981 Tartan 37 came with a Hood Sea Furl system (Mark II B)that has almost frozen up on occation.
Has any one tried to rebuild one?

The 2 bearings in the lower drum are totally shot and can be replaced with automobile bearings. The bearing in the top swivel seem to be harder to obtain. It looks like the snap rings and "O" rings are standard auto items.

I hate to replace this unit if I can rebuild it for a few hundred dollars.

Any help?

My T37 has a Harken Unit II Furler, and I suspect the furler on most Tartans was installed by the dealer, rather than the factory. Hopefully Hood will be able to help you on your rebuild questions. Jay.

I'm pretty sure roller furlers were all owner installed.
Babner, I may have the furler parts you're looking for. When I bought my T-37, someone had given me a used Hood furler, but I wound up buying a new Schaefer 2100. I think I still have the older Hood somewhere in my storage area.
