Has anyone removed their prop shaft? Looks like I need to remove the rudder. Does this involve cutting off the skeg to gain access to the pintal bolts. Any chance of getting the shaft past the rudder by removing the strut?

Jim,
It's actually pretty easy to remove the shaft. You'll need to remove the four bolts holding the strut and this will allow the the shaft to drop a bit and move to the side as you pull it out.

Tom, that's great news. I was having visions of cutting off the skeg, hanging the boat in the travel lift and removing the rudder. I hope there's not too much 5200 on the strut. This will really save some time, Thanks.

Lots of shaft chat today... When you do remove it, you'll see why a Zinc on the shaft just inside the stuffing box is a good idea. (or between the stuffing box and the skeg.) That's the only thing that saved ours from leaving the ship entirely.
