I haven't ordered it yet.....need to speak to the company about quantities. I will probably order two sets for myself (back-up for later). I will post more information and pricing and see if there are other folks in need...stay tuned.

Having done a bit of research, I have found some gasket material for the forward main hatch and the salon hatch that seems promising (and cheap). On the McMaster Carr website (www.mcmaster.com) I have found a 6' length of 3/4" tubing for $9.35. This would be used for the tubing that was described as 11/16" (which may have been 3/4" to start). The part # is 4339T14.

For the 1/2" tubing, 4339T12 is the part number. $6.30. It is soft but it is durable. If for some reason it turns out to be too soft one could either squirt it full of silicone or put a thin line through it (if it is compressing too much). Incidentally, don't use silicone to seal the gasket to the frame. Silicone as a sealant is a seal waiting to leak (and not too long from when installed). You might try a butyl rubber sealant for a long lasting and waterproof seal.

Incidentally, if you have never perused the McMaster Carr website (or voluminous catalog) you may be surprised to see that they have most everything for industrial use. Many things may be useful on our boats.

What you need for hatch gaskets is an extruded closed cell, light
to medium dense EPDM sponge in the dimensions mentioned in a
previous post. All automotive weather stripping is EPDM sponge.
I have been developing formulas for EPDM sponge weatherstripping
for the past 30 years. In our business, we buy the raw materials,
mix them together according to the formula and ship the un-
vulcanized material to our customers who extrude it into various
shapes then vulcanize it. We do not make the end product. The
price for hatch gasket material from Adkins&Hoyle is outrageous,
the cost of the material could not be more than a couple of
dollars.

So, take a look at the McMaster-Carr website and tell me if the parts are of the suggested kind. You can use the part number on the previous message to confirm. If they are not, do you see among their many types and extrusions, a gasket that would be appropriate for the Tartan-37 hatches?

Thanks for checking for us all.....I can order for others if they so wish...

Falco, I bought a round silicone foam gasket(I think 5/8"dia by 10') for my front hatch from McMaster Carr. I did all of this on line and if I recall it was about $20. I found that most adhesives didnt want to stick to the hatch frame and silicone gasket but incredibly rtv silicone worked fine. The foam piece I bought comes in a cream color which I am not nuts about but when installed it looks fine. Carl
