Hey everyone, we're in the middle of replacing all of our standing rigging and chainplates (we had both aft-lower chainplates break...). We're getting ready to pull the stem fitting and have a new one fabricated. What would be the best way to support the mast while it's out? The cleats are really only good for horizontal stresses so I'm a little worried about putting a halyard on them and applying any decent pressure... I had thought about making a sacrificial stem fitting with some left over stainless bar I have from making the capshroud chainplates but that'll take a decent amount of time to make...
Our marina is super exposed to weather and wake from power boaters so I definitely want to make sure everything is supported. This is also going to be the test run for when we pull the forestay and furling unit to replace the stay and I'll be at the top of the mast for that one so I'd like to find the safest option!
Thanks!
