I've a situation where, when it rains, water comes down the mast and some of it collects in that small hollow forward of the mast. I can't find a weep hole and I'm at a loss as to how to drain this space. Now I just dry it out with a towel, but that's a lousy solution.

Is this specific to my boat and they forgot to put a weep hole in? If there is one, can someone share pictures? Anyone with a similar problem (and solution)?

Again, appreciate any help you might have.

Not just your boat. We had the exact same issue, along with some rotten wood around the mast step because of the persistent wetness.

I drilled a hole through the glass mast step just forward of the centerboard pennant pipe. It all seems good now.

Mad Mike - thanks.

This is a picture of the fibreglass forward part of my mast step. Hull 343. Water collects to the left in the picture. I'm thinking yours is different?

Steve, you seem to have much more access and visibility in that area than we do on hull 162. But we also find poor drainage because there aren't as many limber holes as there should be. We collect water and also mud from the anchor chain, mostly in front of the mast step, where we can't see and can barely reach under the floor. Those bare copper wires (port chainplate bonding wires) go through a lump of fiberglass under the mast step. That lump also impedes drainage. I haven't found a good solution; it's not a place where I want to go drilling holes willy nilly.
