Has anyone moved their traveler aft into the cockpit? I'm thinking of moving it into the cockpit just forward of the starboard lazarette to make it easier to trim from the helm, and maybe even increase the mainsheet purchase so it can be trimmed from there as well.

Any thoughts?

That's the way my Pearson 10M was rigged and I preferred it. Never had a dodger or bimini on that one, though.

Agree - I prefer it. At the same time, it looks hard to do well on the T37. The starboard lazarette forces it to be further forward than the end of the boom. The high seat backs look like they will interfere with the angles on reaching points of sail.

I was hoping someone else had tried it with success. I think I'll focus my efforts elsewhere at this point.

My Pearson 10M was tiller steered. The wheeled versions typically had the wheel forward, traveler on the bridge deck. I'm not sure with the large wheel and Edson binnacle you wouldn't run into . . . confusion at times.

I think moving the traveler into the cockpit is totally impractical. It shouldn't be too difficult to come up with an arrangement to run the control lines back to the helm if you wanted to do that.

If you really think you need mainsheet control from the cockpit then reroute the sheet to be split-tail along the cockpit combing and leading back to the helm station. Mounting a traveler in the cockpit of this boat is not only impractical but unnecessary in my opinion. The boat is not driven by the mainsail. It can tolerate overtrimming at times and doesn't need constant attention like on a fractionally rigged boat or one with a massive mainsail. Also, the traveler is secondary to the sheet anyway. I have thought about the split tail idea but realistically my autohelm does such an outstanding job steering the boat that if I really want to mess with the main I can do so whenever I want. Just my 2 cents.

Leave the traveller where it is and move the lines back into the cockpit, I have two cam cleats mounted to either coaming sides in it works great.

You can add purchase to the main sheet. I'm not a fan of the traveler in the cockpit and would be a tough install. Like jafalsone, our mains are so small (only 12ft foot) their impact is not as great as most boats.

Thanks so much for the feedback - we'll move that idea into the dustbin.

All excellent points and having gone back to the boat this weekend, completely impractical.

Thanks for humoring me. Very Happy
