Well, in checking chainplates and replacing a few, I discovered that the starboard bulkhead between the hanging lockers where the forward lower chainplate attaches has some pretty serious rot. It turns out it's just plywood tabbed to the deck and hull.

Has anyone replaced this before? Is it best to repair and partner or try and replace the entire thing? I'm bracing for a big repair just as the season is about to begin. Not thrilled at this point.

I'll be back at the boat today cutting out some of the wood to determine the full extent of the damage.

I have not replaced that bulkhead (yet). But I have replaced both the port and starboard V-berth bulkheads. It seems that Tartan did not glass the edges for the bulkheads allowing water intrusion into the bulkheads. I think you are going to be shocked at how much rot is there and right where you need good wood to hold the chainplate down. Repair or replace is unknown until you know how big the repair job is.

Hopefully you can partner the bulkhead until the end of the season when you have time to replace it.
