I have tried several times to contact Tartan about ordering a new pintle plate.
I have not heard back from anyone. Does anyone know if they still sell parts?
It seems to me like something I could have a local shop make for me if I had the dimensions.
However I am Nova Scotia and the boat is in Toronto, so I cannot measure it up my self. I would really like to replace it when we head back up there in April.
the boat is a 1979 with the four bolt plate. would anyone have those dimensions?

John,

I too, had a heck of a time getting a response from Tartan about their parts. Finally Tim Jackett ( Yes, That Tim) followed up with an email along with Chris Ranney, Tartan’s Manger of Customer Service & QC.

The good news is that Tartan is selling parts for our Good Ol Boats. They told me that they are in the process of rebuilding their website and will include parts for our T37s.

You can reach out to Chris at (440)-392-2628
Cell: (216)-310-7245

I hope this helps.
Good luck.

Thanks Dave
I have read through a few threads about it, and the piece in the technical part of the T37 site. I think i have a good understanding of the scope of the work. I was just hoping to find the actual dimensions of the pintle plate. I must have missed them, I will go back though and check the threads. It wont hurt the read it all again!

I just got a call back from Tartan Yachts today. Had a good chat with Mike. He says everything is operational and parts are available as before. He's even going to dig up the file on my hull number and scan it for me tomorrow. Cheers.

Thank You all for the responses.
I just got an email back from Chris at Tartan. They have a four bolt one ready in stock. However it it would be a $1000 CAD with shipping and taxes so I think I am going to see if a machinist I know can make it for me.
Richard I will send you an email and maybe next time we head up to the mainland I can stop by and measure your old one.

I have a 1979 and it is a straight, 4-bolt assembly. However, I have seen 3-bolt pintle plates and staggered 4-bolt plates in other bolts. Heed the advice to drop the rudder and run what you got to the machinist. It's a chore, but not rocket science. Block it up high enough to get the full rudderpost out. Have the bolt heads welded all the way around and same with the 1" pin that holds the bushing (fully welded on the bottom side of the plate). Have a backing plate made up at the same time. Then have a top-hat delrin bushing made. No need to pin it that way, and it can't climb up into the rudderpost.

When you mention about dropping the rudder, I know a notch has to be removed from it, but is it necessary to remove the skeg as well?

Yes, the skeg, pintle bar and rudder all drop together, then they can be separated. A drawing and image is attached. I dug the hole for the rudder to drop enough for the rudder post to exit the boat and supported the rudder with ratchet straps. After cutting around the skeg/hull line and the nuts removed from inside, the rudder can be lowered. Everything goes back together the same way.

Other posts mention replacing the pinned bushing and washer with a single 'tophat' of delrin turned as one. This will prevent the bushing from riding up the shaft if the pin fails.
