I’m going to have Hatchmasters refurbish the old Atkins & Hoyle center hatch that is crazed and needs a new gasket.

Of course, that means removing it. For those of you who have done this before, is the hatch through bolted and I have to remove the headliner or is there an ss or aluminum frame in the deck that it bolts into.

Appreciate the help.

All Hatchmasters needs is the hatch itself. Just pull out the rod holding the hatch to the frame. No need to remove the frame which I believed is screwed down.
I had them do my FWD hatch and very pleased. Looks good and no more leaks.

I haven't been able to figure out where my center hatch is leaking. It doesn't appear to be the deck bedding. I got the ridiculously priced A&H gasket and glue and haven't done the hatches yet. This is going to be the last winter in Maine before she's retired to the Caribbean. And I'm sure she's pissed at me for leaving her in the yard and shipping this Dyer 29 down to St. Thomas instead. But the Dyer would have been too much on her own bottom.

Mine was the same, I was sure it was the bedding but after redoing it there was still leakage, had a new lens made locally and rebedded with stuff from Atkins and all is fine now,

My forward A&H hatch needs rehab.
I was going to send the top portion of the hatch to Hacthmasters so I could have it ready for the 2023 season.

For the life of me I couldn’t get the pin out.
Tried PB blaster, rigged up a special rod to hammer thru.
Got about 3 “ then nothing.
I was afraid of cracking the cast frame.

There must be an easy “ trick of the trade” to remove the pin. Or do I need to remove the bottom frame, cut the pin in pieces? Order a new rod?
Thanks in advance.

It was a long time ago but I am certain that I ended up cutting mine. I made a new one that was threaded in the middle. Even if it would push through, I think it would hit the grab rail. New one pushed in from each side. I only took the top off (forward and center) and sent them for new lenses. Never took off the bases.

The gasket sizes between the center hatch (smaller) and forward hatch (larger) are different sizes contrary to what the AH guy in Canada told me. The center hatch is tight now, the forward hatch still has gaps. To correct the forward hatch, you have to get the dogs to seat tighter. My son shoved several washers between the frame and the top of surface of the dog and that brought it down, but not all the way.

Either the dog surface or the frame undernearth where it contacts is worn. I didn't have time to look at it - too many other things to do - but if we'd put in the 5/8" gasket I think we would have been O.K. Or whatever size is 1/8" larger than the center hatch gasket. Silaprene goes bad, too, and using it involves a learning curve. Believe me.
