Befores, afters, etc. That's a camper 30' away in the reflection. There's a lot to be said for Meguiar's Ultra Cut.

Previous owner(s) didn't know a skeg belonged, added a warp catcher in front of the pintle cutout.

This is kind of scatterbrained, but some relevant photos that might help someone. Oh, and that's a '59 Ford in the reflection in the hull.

In no particular order. Hey, I don't even know how I got these here. Hope they help someone. I'll be doing the coach & deck w/2 part polyurethane. Epiphanes tells me they have a primer that will bind the one-part crap someone painted on the coach and cockpit so I can 2 part over it.

More general photos. I'm a barn carpenter, but I can hide a multitude of sins and finish things beautifully. She'll be tough.

File comment: Yeah, this needs to be filled. Where the deck scuppers flow out, the stainless dams the flow and drives the water right down into the hull deck joint.

More. There, posted from phone, then back to computer. Much easier. i just make this stuff up as I go along.

So this is the skeg stuff. Hang it with gorilla tape, fit everything. Note that the sides of the skeg don't extend back under the "flaps" up at the hull. Interior of skeg is too narrow to mate with rudder in any reasonable fashion, so I'll fabricate some smoothing flaps to attach (temporarily) with screws, then glass them on. Probably just find my bend with a large scrap of 1/4" plywood, create a radius and make some flaps to fit. The upper "flaps" clear the rudder. The sides of the skeg would not.

God bless Harbor Freight. 7" buffer/sander, sheeps wool covers (3 so far and Meguiar's Ultra Cut Compound. Oh, and Youtube. You can buff away all your gelcoat if you're not careful. I tried to start wetsanding, but that was going to take longer than priming and painting the hull to get it all the way to wax. Everything was at Harbor Freight. I've burned up a couple of tools thus far, refuse to pay the "extended coverage," and they've only refused to take back one thing. My first 7" buffer i wasn't paying attention, wrapped the cord into the buffer, smoke, sparks, hell fire shooting out. I threw that thing 30'. I also burned out a 6" DA and something else. I'm their best advertising - until they refuse to take stuff back. Within reason.

After i get the bottom finished and barrier coated, the stbd side compounded, I'll run a polish over everything, then wax it. Probably all Meguiars, since it seems to be an outstanding product. I got boot and cove stripes to deal with in the meantime before I get to the polish and wax part. In the past, I look at an oxidized hull and see a prepped surface that just needs a quick sanding, two coats of primer and then 2 part linear polyurethane. I like this gelcoat coming back. Complicating things, the boat is in Maine and I'm in the Virgin Islands on a regular basis. Like right now. Actually cooler down here.
