When I got my boat I switched out all the shaft, prop anodes from Zinc to Mag. for fresh water sailing. After the first year I noticed that the Mag anodes were really chewed up for only being in the water for 4 1/2 months. It's a short sailing season up here. So a changed them out again with Mag. anodes. Not sure if this is all that bad or all that good..
This spring, I'm thinking about switching to Alum. anodes which are cheaper and perhaps may last longer??
I asked our marina about stray current and they said that they closely monitor the juice and it hasn't been a noted problem and I have no signs of corrosion around the engine.
Any feedback on Alum. vs Mag. anodes from Great Lakes - fresh water sailors will be greatly appreciated.
