Can't find a bolt that I like. It's a 1/8" hole in the pintle pin and bushing. Cotter pin seems insufficient. I'm not wild about a bolt with threads in there, either. Seems like too much surface to corrode. Someone recommended stainless welding rod. I know nothing about welding rod. Would this work?

Just buy 316 SS round stock/bar. It's not coming out after the rudder is installed. Bet you can get a sample piece. Off eBay can get 800mm for $8. The machine shop that welded on mine, had it laying around.

Thanks. The old pin had simply disintegrated into a rust line. The stainless guy still has my pulpit and yes, I'm guessing he has all kinds of stuff laying around. Did a nice job on the pintle, all bolt heads welded all the way around, as well as the pin. I bought four 5/8" stainless nyloc nuts at Hamilton Marine for $0.25 each. That can't be right. I've been so busy and traveling, I'm probably just going to bite the bullet and order the fairing from Tartan. Too cold to do any kind of fabrication or anything that requires spooge, caulk or epoxy, and I want to be gone by May and in Grenada by July. But plans change, I guess.
