Agreed. The laminate at the bottom of the keel is less than stellar. What came out of mine was not resin. It was a very soft metallic.

I've installed with West System and 404. When I injected into one hole, it started squirting our of other holes, so there was definitely more voids in the laminate. I filled all of that until it wouldn't take any more before installing the centerboard.

While I was working on stopping those leaks through the keel, I actually tracked down a guy who used to worked building Tartans in the 80s. He called what was poured into the keel around the ballast an "epoxy slurry". If I remember correctly he said the slurry was epoxy mixed with sand?

When the yard dropped the keel of my deep fin keeled T37 last year, they found what they described as “trash that looked as though it had been swept from the floor of the factory” mixed in with the resin in the joint. The lay up was quite good, but a lot of the “fitting” of the floor and keel were really crappy quality hodge podge. Nothing that would make you doubt the boat structurally, and they did not think anyone would see it, but it was depressing just the same.

Enough of boat work for a while. Waterborn is coming along great. New paint, sails and dodger. Next to get the Bimini on and work out the new solar panel location.
