This is a test, but what it might show is my stbd chainplate backing. A large sheet of aluminum plate in the locker. I have a feeling something was redone, but I'm working on the outside right now. I'll get more photos in if this works. I've got 10 days in the Virgin Islands (alone this time) at the house, and may be able to get some of the rudder/skeg/bottom/hull deck joint/ blah blah posted.

What hull number is your boat? This is how ours look. Hull #159

Hull 216, former ITASCA, renamed "Heelin' Time", to be renamed again. 1979. Born in Ohio, lived on a lake in Wisconsin, moved around to Maine 7 or so years ago and put on the hard not too long thereafter. I may take the bolts out and try to isolate them a little from the aluminum with some appropriate caulk, but I see no corrosion. Rough lookin' bird when I bought it, but she cleans up nicely. I just haven't gotten to digging too deep yet. One project at a time, beginning with the bottom of the keel, barrier coating, rudder, up through. I do note some punk in a couple small holes in the foredeck that were left to the weather. Pulpit mount holes were bone dry. I'm also re-filling the hull/deck joint, which had a lot of voids. I'll get photos up. Have to get down to Magen's Bay and do the AM walk/weight routine for an hour.

Here's more starboard attachments. I haven't gotten to this area yet. It's too easy to drop one thing and move on to some other shiny thing, so I try to focus.

We had ours fabricated by a local company in St Pete, FL instead of going with one of the big online companies. Can't remember the actual name, but if you need I can probably dig it up. They used our old ones as templates.

It was actually through our riggers: The Yacht Rigger. Steve Lloyd and his dad Richard. Great people if you ever need anything. They are experts on a lot of boat systems in addition to the rigging they do. They used a local company in St Pete, but I don't think it was JTR. A good place to start would be contacting Steve. Tell him Zach from Holiday sent you. https://theyachtrigger.com/

Okay, I'm ready to pull my chainplates this winter. The mast is down.

To access the port chainplates, it looks like I need to remove the cabinet work over the head. Messy, but I can handle that.

To access the starboard chainplates, how to I get to the aft side? Is there an easy way to remove the covering panel? Is it better to just cut it? Has anyone come up with an elegant solution that will allow regular inspection in the future?

Really appreciate any advice here since you've been through this already.

thanks in advance.

Stbd side is straight forward. You need to remove some trim and the panel can be unscrewed. Just be sure you get all the screws before you start pulling because it should come off easy. Also, there's a veneer under the the bulkhead covering up the glass and wood stiffener (I think 1/2" laminate each side with thick plywood between. Mine veneer was rotted from water ingress through the chainplates.

Port side is a bitch. There's nothing easy about it.

Good luck
