Hi:

I feel a bit foolish here, but I'm looking for a replacement part and I don't know what it's called. The best I can come up with is "line guide".

I assume that mine is not the only Tartan 37 with a piece of plastic placed in the cutouts on either side of the forward end of the companionway. I've attached a picture (which is well worth at least the 28 words in my last sentence, and probably the proverbial 1,000 words).

My starboard piece was was lost by my marina last spring in the process of commissioning. I assume I can find a piece of plastic and get it cut, but before I do, I thought I'd check to see if anyone of you have had to replace yours, and whether you have any recommendations.

Thanks

-Jim

We have three lines going through there for the furling main. Never had a guide of any sort. Same for port side with the main sheet. Haven't had an issue, never missed them.

The term is "fairlead". My '80 only has the centerboard pennant going that way through a different type of fairlead.
Like this one: http://www.go2marine.com/product/25050F ... dware.html

I would suggest that if you want to replace it, you might use a piece of Starboard. Shape it to fit and punch three holes through it and lap them for smoothness.

Perhaps this line guide/fairlead could be mounted further aft, just forward of the dodger, to help prevent chafe of the dodger and to slow/stop green water as it rushes aft to douche the poor crew sheltering under it?

I have never had such a guide and there is no evidence of there ever being one. I wonder if it could cause chafing of the lines

Thanks, all, for your replies. I assumed, apparently incorrectly, that it was standard on all T37's. I can tell you that it helped to guide the lines back into the cockpit. My yard manager offered to craft a new piece for me based on the one on port. So I think I'm good.
