I swear I remember a recent discussion about the pintle and questions about whether the wire should be wrapped under one of the bolts and also some info on how the welds should be, etc, but I couldn't find it on the board. Seems like someone had said that for one of these reasons they had had theirs replaced and then had to replace it again rather quickly. Wouldn't want that expense again. So, I was checking mine this past weekend at the boat. I just had mine replaced by a yard this past year, and you can see the wire isn't around any of the bolts. Not sure I want to get into trying to remedy that. Also, does the job look done correctly compared to what you have seen on your own boat?

Usally the rust is a sign of the pintle leaking. Is that old rust? Are you out of the water? Looks like the forward bolt may be leaking. Add another nut and attached the grounding wire under it. Clean wire 1st.

Sorry, yeah should have mentioned that. I need to get in there and clean all that old rust up. It's bone dry back there. I'll double check that forward bolt to make sure that's just some of the rusty trash laying on it. So, if I clean the wire, I can wrap it on one of the bolts sticking up and just put another nut on top? Do I need to remove any of the compound that is on the bolt first or is that even compound I'm looking at?

I would clean the sealent off the bolt. You should be able to get about 3/4 wrap of the wire around on of the bolts. A spray of silcone after you're done wouldn't hurt.
