How much is normal? Or is it always bad? How bad? Does it always mean that there is a zinc that needs changing or something needs maintained? Lol. I must sound like a three year old the way I get on here and rapid fire questions about everything. Thanks in advance for humoring me. See pics. Just noticed the top of my brand new this year raw water filter is starting to rust. Am I supposed to be trying to stop this? How? A good bit of corrosion on the oil cooler. Changed both my engine zincs back in May/June. Does this signify that it is time to check and change them again? Or is it just normal?

Looks to me that the corrosion in your pictures is caused by a slight amount of sea water leakage, .which I very hard to eliminate completely. Regarding your engine zincs, I find that I need to replace my raw water heat exchanger about every 2 months or so. I don't think it's consumed by electrolysis since all other zincs remain relatively unaffected. My theory is the zinc surfaces become somewhat pasty and the high turbulence in the hx erodes the zinc away. Nevertheless, it's gone so I'd recommend you look at it often.

Thanks for the info. I'll get in there again and try to tighten those hose clamps and clean off the build up when I check the zinc this weekend. Hopefully be able to stop any water from leaking. Not sure how water would be getting out and on top of that raw water filter lid, but I'll check on that too and clean it off and see if it comes back I guess.

Is that not an o-ring on top of the raw water strainer that says "Hand Tight Only"??? Possible leakage source with it below the waterline. Just my best guess.

Lol. Wayne, I need you around all the time. I bet you are right. I was doing a bunch of other things and didn't get to take a close look at that. Will check on that for sure.
