Looking at a possible T37 at 11:00 today. Took a quick look at it before hand W/o the broker and noticed the center board was corroded and moved and made noise when moved by hand.

What are the center boards made of and how much will it set me back to make it not make noise when retracted and on the hook as that is the primary thing holding me back from pulling the trigger after tight finances ?

The centerboard will set you back about $2100for parts.

However, if you're really tight on funds, just pull the old one out. The PO of my boat broke off the tip of the centerboard and just didn't even use it. We bought the boat in February and did not replace the broken centerboard until we hauled it. The boat sails very well without it. But with it, she points to windward like a champ.

So, if it was me and I couldn't afford the board RIGHT NOW, I'd go ahead and buy the boat anyway. But I'd ask for a price reduction because of the board.

Thanks for the help !

She is a good looking boat and I'm defiantly interested . She is a bit light on equipment so I will look around a bit more - no windlass surprised me for example.

This one is at the same place I keep my 30 foot boat so it's at the top of the list for now.

Hi,

I had the same issues when I bought mine a few years back, it is a easy repair you can do yourself if your handy. The biggest issue I had was raising the boat on the cradle high enough to allow for the board to slide out. I just had the adjustable posts lengthened 2 feet and blocked it up, ensuring the front of the board was not covered by supporting blocks and the 6 bolts on the hinge were accessible. My club uses a crane, gives you 10 minutes to put your boat on the hard. If you have the luxury of a travel lift you'd have no difficulities.

The original bolts, although corroded came out with little effort, as did the board. I removed the hinge, took it to a local shop and they made me a new one for a 100 bucks, and for an additional 50 bucks, they made me a new eyebolt with a sleeve that is secured through the centerboard on both sides which will last 30 years easy. (mine also pulled out) I did some fiberglassing and faring of the centerboard myself, finished it all off with several coats of Interprotect 2000, replaced the hose connecting the through hull to the the stainless tube that goes up the mast and the line for under $400 Canadian...

Its an easy fix that I would not worry about, your getting a great boat. Its the cheapest repair Ive had on any of my girls that are in thier 30s... LOL
