Hi all can anyone shed some light on the deck composition of 1982 Tartan 37. I have a leak coming from the port inboard sail track is this area reinforced or just balsa core like the rest of the deck ? If anyone has had this problem please share how you dealt with it . I was thinking of pulling the track and filling the holes with epoxy and re-drilling and re- beading it.
Thanks Matt

Hi Kerryman51,

I did that job a while back. http://www.tartan37.com/t37forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=145&hilit=

The deck is balsa except where it is reinforced by ply in high stress areas.

I removed the track, drilled, routed, filled with epoxy, drilled again, replaced the ss bolts, washers and nuts and rebedded the track and bolts.

The headliner removal in the quarter berth is straight forward.

Matt,

I`ve pulled both genoa tracks at this time and have found major water saturation and a small amount of delamination. Started off to rebed and now am into a much bigger situation. It`s my third season in and it looks like previous owners had neglected the rebedding process. Also no backing plates but small washers that have created indentions in the underside skin. Am planning on replacing 5/8 washers with heavier 1" backed with the same 5/8 washers. After drying out deck along track location on port and starboard. Also will fill enlarged holes with epoxy and filler and reseal. Maybe I`ll be in the water next month. Confused

Scott

Matt - Check the tech resources on this site; I had the same problem and handled it from the inside. Complete instructions on how to approach it from the inside.
