Hi,I took my Edson Binnacle and steering apart for refurbishing. I found that the two sheaves under the cockpit floor were a bit loose. The axles were very worn as they had been spinning in the 'cheeks'. I find that current Edson steering has two little 'nubbins' on the cheek plates to prevent this [it was obviously a problem].If you have an older one it might be a good idea to check these,I think Edson now uses stainless axles but I got a piece of bronze rod 3/8 from Mc Master Carr. I have used seizing wire to prevent further spinning. Enjoy the summer at last, Bruce.

Yes, it's a good idea to get familiar with the steering system! I rebuilt mine a few years back and once you understand how the system all goes together, you gain confidence in being able to fix it when things break Shocked
