Just something else to worry about.... I was working on the engine today and while doing so I dropped a screw down behind the engine mount. When I was on my belly trying to get the nut I looked up in disbelief; one entire side of the engine had lost all of the mounting bolt nuts..... all four !!! After a good look I found them where they had dropped directly below the bolts.

It was a real B#@#$ to get my hands up there so I could put them back. You might hire a little person to help if you ever need to do it.

I mention this because if you have one of these old babies you might ought to start checking those mounting bolts whenever you do regular/scheduled maintenance... just add it to the list as an item to check.

I had one of my bolts break off (W40) that holds the engine mount in place to the engine, see "W40 engine mounts" on our forum. The mounts just get stiffer with age and probably puts a great deal of strain on anything related to it, easy enough to change the mounts though,

Oh, I found the nut. It still had part of the bolt in it. Never did find the rest of the bolt, tho. Scary as hell to look in the engine pan and see a nut and part of a bolt. Where did that come from and what else is broke with it?

When we first hauled Betty Lou we had a lot of work done on the shaft (new shaft, coupling, dripless shaft seal, cutlass bearing). The yard recommended changing the OEM engine mounts as they had flattened and lost all their dampening effect. They were right, as I noticed a huge reduction in engine vibration afterwards.
