Has anyone advice of replacing engine hoses (yes all of them) on the Westerbeke W50?

I know I can buy 'Westerbeke' parts but the costs seems rather high as I am sure a lot of them are just straight hoses and one of mine currently has an elbow in it. I have priced them at Torresen Marine but I am sure they should be available for less. User

You don't need Westerbeke hoses. Take your old ones to an auto parts store and they will find you something that will fit the angles from their car radiator hose selection. You also can make 90 degree turns with pipe fittings if you can't find the right angles. There is nothing special about these hoses.

The part number I used this past weekend was Dayco D71679 (AutoZone) and was able to cut both of the two bigger hoses out of it. No other fittings required, it was like $16. The other freshwater hoses are 5/8" that you can buy in bulk. The seawater hose from hull fitting to pump, then to heat exchanger is the 5/8" Marine Water Hose with Wire. Now that stuff is expensive $7-8/ft and you need 6ft.

For seawater hosing, I will always use the very best, it's your boat at risk if they fail and the price difference for the total may only be $20-50 bucks.......is your boat worth it? As far as the closed coolant system (antifreeze part), it is fine to use automotive hosing since the worst case scenario is that you overheat your engine and the alarm goes off (hopefully) and you loose some antifreeze. The engine came from the factory with this style of hose.

So you are referring to the hose from the through hull to the raw water pump, from the water pump to the heat exchanger and from the heat exchanger to the exhaust? All the others are closed system pipes I believe.

While on the subject of engine cooling.

Has anyone installed a coolant reservoir on a Westerbeke W50? If so what did you do and how did you do it?

The expansion tank on aW50 is a coolant resevoir.

I added an expansion tank I bought at an auto parts store
I mounted it high in the engine compartment and attached it to the reservoir cap relief line. Works fine.

Reservoir, expansion and overflow tanks all seem to refer to different items for different purposes.
I believe a reservoir holds extra coolant for automatically keeping coolant levels stable in the event of loss,
an expansion tank is pressurized and an overflow tank just catches excess coolant from flowing into the bilge.
