I just noticed someone saying they had to stand on their head to replace the impeller on the sea water pump on their W50. I had that problem the first time, climbing into locker below the aft quarter berth and trying to work from the side of the engine, and back side of the pump. I have now found an easier way (probably most of you have) that allows me to change the impeller in 30 minutes or less.

1. Remove the two bolts that hold the pump to the front of the engine, and serve as the adjustment for tension for the belt.
2. Once the pump is free, you to move the pump around (hoses are flexible) to use a screwdriver to loosen the hose clamps of the sea water input and outflow hoses to the back side of the pump.
3. Once these are disconnected, the pump is free and you can put it on the counter to remove the 6 small screws on the plate that houses the impeller.
4. Once the impeller is replaced, just reverse the steps, making sure to have good belt tension to the water pump.

I purchased an impeller extractor recently and have been anxious to give her a try.

I didn't even know there was such a thing until I saw a buddy use his and removed the impeller very fast and easy.

I've always used a small flat head screwdriver or more recently a dental pick.
