Anybody change the entire transmission shifting rod/cable?

I would like to find a source for this part so I can decide whether to do it while the pedestal is out.

Thanks

It is a standard Morse Cable. Take the old one to a supply house or measure it and buy one on line. This should last a long time and I would not think that it would need preventive replacement. Also, It can be replaced fairly easily replaced even with the pedestal in place. When replacing be very sure that you have it all set so that the gears are fully engaged when in the forwad and reverse position. It is possible to install the cable so that the gear is only partially engaged (it will click when in place) and that will screw up the transmission. Any binding in your current cable is more likely in the linkage on the engine or in the lever mechanism in the pedestal. If I had the pedestal apart, I would make sure that the brake (replacement parts available from Edsen) was in good shape and be careful not to get any lubricants on it.

FWIW
