I had used and replaced Sherwood raw water pumps during the 15 years I had my W-50. Do some folks have a Jabsco? Or is that the smaller W-40 engine?

Velera,

I have a W50 in my 1980 T37 #231 with a Jabsco raw water pump. The pump model number is 5320-0011.

My W-40 has the Sherwood. Don't know the model off hand.

The W50 parts book lists the jabsco pump however, my w50 came with a sherwood brass pump. I think they are very similar pumps and Westerbeke used either one. I am surprised how far out on the pump shaft the drive sheave has to be for belt alignment. Overhung load on the pump bearing looks like it could be an issue if the belt is tightened too much.

I went through 2 Sherwood pumps (bearings went) in about 3000 hours on my W-50. I am not sure if this is high or low. I was careful about belt tension. I always figured I got about500 hours on an impeller--if I remembered to open the valve and ran in clean water.

What is the model number for the Sherwood pump. My W50 has the Jabsco 5320 but I'm not too happy with the availability of parts and the price for a spare is a bit steep compared to similar Jabsco pumps.
