Went looking for the fuel tank vent and I'll be darned if I can find one. There is hose coming out of the top of the tank and heading aft to port but there is no apparent vent. Did Tartan do what they did on the T34. That is bring the vent for the A4 gas tank up into a stanchion. Frustrating

Mine's located on the aft-end of the cockpit coaming on the port side. It's a small vent and could easily be missed if you're just glancing around. Our T-37 was built in '77, so I can't speak for later models......

Ditto what Tortuga says. Our vent is on the cockpit combing, aft port quarter.

Silly me I thought that was the vent for the port water tank. Is the vent that is on the starboard quarter not the vent for the starboard water tank? Then where is the vent for the port water tank?
Confused

If you have a CNG stove the vent on the starboard side is for the the vent on the regulator. The vents for the water tanks are in the cabin. The port tank runs up behind the cupboard and back down to the bilge. The starboard tank is in the hanging locker across from the head door this also run up and back down to the bildge. That is where mine are located I don't know if they did it other ways or not.

On my boat, which I think is consistent with most T37s, neither water tank has an external vent. Both tanks are vented through a high point loop, which discharges to the bilge. The high point loop for the starboard water tank is in the aft hanging closet; the high point loop for the port tank is in the storage bay behind the port settee.

The fact that the fuel tank vent is so far from the fill pipe makes it a two person exercise to fill the fuel tank, one to listen at the vent and the other to pump the fuel. On our previous boat (a Tartan 34) the vent and fill were together. We are currently cruising south so we need to top off the tank without overflowing it. They don't like it when you dump diesel overboard.

As noted by the others, the fuel tank vent is a small chrome-coated zinc cast piece that it attached to the port stern quarter coaming (on my 1979 #198 Tartan 37). The hole is small and on the bottom. The vent line runs forward under the port gunwhale (gunnel to some) to the tank. My vent seems to be semi-functional with some (but not enough) air coming through as I fill the tank. Have any others experienced AND solved this problem?

Falco-

I have the same or similar problem with mine. I've just learned to live with it. If I try to fill my tank at full flow, initially some fuel will come out of the vent, and, from the sound at the fill connection, it seems like it will overflow. It hasn't happened but I haven't tested it. If I fill the tank at about half flow, all goes well.
