I am about to haul out for about 6 months and will be doing sole engine maintenance in about 2 months. Changing the rear main seal and gaskets on the back of the motor. I'd also like to swap the gasket on the oil pan. Should I change the oil before I haul and swap the seals? The boat will be sitting for 2 months before I can get to the work.

I'm thinking you should NOT change the oil. In two months, you're going to drop the oil pan. What are you going to do with the oil in the pan? This would be a great time to clean the metal filings and general gunk out of the pan. Then go back in with clean oil and a new filter.

Yeah, I was wondering "why?" Cleaning it all out now and leaving it open might lead to corrosion. I'd wait, do it all ta once.

I changed the oil this morning before seeing
the replies. I guess it could be two to three months before getting to the engine. So it will be sitting with clean oil in it and then when I do the maintenance I guess I will change it again.
