Right now I'm 2000 miles from the boat, but in reviewing everything, I think i need to replace the alternator pulley with a dual pulley or something. i woke up thinking about it, because the previous owner mentioned that the Balmar alternator output is weak until you get up to a certain RPM level . . . I'm typing without thinking here, but he mentioned something about upgrading the engine pulley system. Whatcha got for pointers?

I couldn't find the parts either. Looked at having a machine shop help me, but decided against. Make sure you have perfect alignment. a good quality belt you and can run 100 amps fine. Remember tension up the alternator pretty high, but the water pump doesn't need much tension and saves the seals. The alternator is close to 2hp of load and water pump is only about 1/8hp.

Yeah. I can find one for the W40, but can't find anything made specifically for the W50. I see the TAD stuff, other companies. Anyone solved the problem?

I know I have a double pulley on the front of my crankshaft for my SeaFrost compressor but I don’t know where it came from. It shouldn’t be difficult to source. I do have a W50

TAD says this: "Sorry the W40 kit will not work. We might suggest fitting a PTO shaft to the front crank pulley if bolt holes are available.

Then you can fit an accessory single/double pulley to run a remote mounted alternator."

Way over my head at the moment. Anyone want to elucidate? Does it mean the engine mounted alternator has to be moved?

On my 1980 W50, I have a double pulley but they are different sizes. The inner larger sheave runs the alternator and the fresh water pump. The outer smaller sheave just runs the raw water pump.
