Yeah I hear you there on keeping the alternator cool. I got my crank into a shop today and it was interesting that he took the micrometer to the good parts and came up with exact number for the MGB 65/75 or something like that from the book of all measure. Anyway i will have it in a couple of weeks as he is backed up. A call to Moss Motors yielded nothing in using the casting number to cross reference the con rod. I called down to John Perkins of Perkins truck and Marine diesel in Tide water and I have a rod for $150.00. John was the first person I contacted before I knew the damage and he had a couple of rebuilt short blocks and a crank and con rod. I thought at the time the pricing was a little steep but luckily not. I guess I have time now to paint her up and rebuild the Sherwood and sort out the alternator. Thanks for your help. If you email me I can give you a ring when I get everything sorted and bring the engine back to Chesapeake yachts. Mark#337 zoombats@gmail.com

Got my crank cleaned up by Hapco in Terre Haute Indiana. Mains stay standard and big end bearings are .010 under. All parts gaskets, con rod, new fuel pump, mains and big end bearings all ordered from Leland Nuefeld Tractor Parts from Cynthia at Northwoods Tractors in Wisconsin. Good prices, great knowledgable gal and all under one roof. Sometimes you luck out with the local talent. Gotta love those Westie 50's 1800D tractor diesels. I'll get the parts in end of February and head south a little late but heh. Thanks to all for shout. Mark #337
Ps forgot to mention the MGB(1979) water pump from Auto Zone and the brand new Sherwood, cheapest I found was $423.00 and most expensive $750.00
