My throttle doesn't stay set at the RPM where it is set. The throttle backs off on its own and I need to keep my hand on throttle to keep the revs up. This happens and the motor settles at around 1700 RPM. I have a W50. On longer motors, I have been using a strong to tie the throttle in position.

I have heard that there are clamps on throttle cables that should adjust how much pressure it takes to move them. I haven't been able to find one on my cable. Are they typically located by the engine or near the actual lever in the pedestal? I'm not quite sure what I am looking for

Not unique to the W50 but I know more than one T37 (including mine) with the T37 “cruise control”. A short piece of small line tied to the throttle with a fixed knot and to the binacle guard with a clove hitch. When you settle at the desired RPM, you snug up the clove hitch and the engine speed stays put.

Same issue with Universal 5432. I'm using a piece of velcro strap until I work my way down to the bottom of our to-do list where this issue resides.

Fuel has a spring to return the throttle to idle if cable breaks. Edson sells a small clamp, that you squeeze down on the cable to add just enough friction to maintain the position. Works well. Something like this.

Will try to identify which cable I have today and then see about adding a brake. Seems like the easiest thing to do is to keep using the line to keep the throttle engaged.

This is very common issue. I've seen people use different items to brake or add fiction. Seen visegrips used and various clamps. All are better than using a line around the throttle.
