I recently purchased a Beta 38 engine with a J Prop. I was wondering if there are Beta 38 owners with J Props, and the pitch setting they found best. I have purchased a 16 in, 3 bladed prop. Beta suggests a pitch setting of 8. Thanks.

I'd stay with the engine rating..... only because I have a friend that changes out props for a living... he said that when ever he changes a prop he uses the engine manufacturer's specs for prop size and pitch as if it were the bible.

I agree. However, I had some issues when I changed out an engine in another boat. I suspect Beta's recommendation is correct, but I live in New England and my boat will be launched around the first of May. I'm not keen with taking a dip in 50F water to adjust the setting, if I can avoid it.

I also would start with Beta's recommendation. I replaced my W50 with a Beta 35, was looking for less RPMs. I'm using a Flexofold 16-14, very happy with the forward performance. I'm also using the Hurth 2.14 reduction gear. That's the info you are missing, the gearing is a required piece of data for your question. You'll love the Beta. Try this for fun.
