I am currently traveling down the Baja coast of Mexico and have stopped in ensenada. I have gone to multiple stores to see whether they had some 30 weight engine oil but none of them carried it. Is it okay to use 15w 40? What would the consequences be of using it?

It would surprise me if the multi weight oil had a bad effect on the motor. I also have a 40 year old motor cycle and the thing we have to avoid is synthetic oil. Whatever the reason, it gets past the oil seals and causes leaks. I don’t know if the 40 year old Westerbeake shares that issue but I wouldn’t take a chance.

I always used 15-40 instead of 30 wt. Just make sure that it is diesel type oil. CD is the designation. You should be able to buy this all the way through Central America.

Great. That makes things much easier. I was able to find some SAE 30 in Cabo so I picked up a jug.
