I decided I want to remove the transmission from my W50. I've looked in the engine manual. This procedure is not discussed. I can't see from the manual how it's attached to the bell housing. Any guidance would be appreciated. Thanks.

There is a mounting plate between the tranny and bell housing. You unbolt the six bolts that bolt the plate to the bell housing. Unbolt the tranny from the flange, four bolts. Then, I had to unbolt the four motor's engine mounts and slide the engine forward about an inch. This will allow the tranny's input shaft to clear the drive plate. The remove the adapter plate from the tranny.

Thanks puffcard. Are the flange/4 bolts you refer to the shaft coupling?[

Yea Jim, coupling and flange same. Remember to check shaft alignment when going back together.

That's what I thought. My engine is acting like it's seized. I suspect it's a transmission or drive plate failure. If not, may be looking at a repower.

Seen that a couple of times. Put the tranny in neutral and you should be able to turn shaft in both directions.

I'm not optimistic. With the transmission in neutral the transmission shaft spins freely. Pullling the engine today. Regardless, unless I find something simple and obvious, I'll replace the engine with a Beta 38. Thanks for your help and suggestions. I really appreciate it.
